146: Robert Kerns

Robert Kerns was the chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party in Pennsylvania. He was charged with three counts of indecent assault, two counts of aggravated indecent assault, one count of rape, one count of sexual assault, and one count of simple assault. He took an Alford plea to a lesser charge of misdemeanor indecent assault. An Alford please is like pleading no contest except the defendant claims to be innocent but acknowledges he would be convicted based on the evidence.

He was accused of raping a law clerk at his firm. He will be listed as a sexual offender for life. He was given two years probation. He nearly got away with nothing because of a lab error that led to all the charges being dropped, but they were refiled. He was also disbarred by the state bar association.
