Edison Misla Aldaronda was the Republican Speaker of the House in Puerto Rico. He resigned amid a corruption scandal in 2001. A year later, a seventeen-year-old friend of his stepdaughter accused him of rape after giving her alcohol and prescription drugs. His step-daughter came forward and claimed he had been molesting her for eight years. In a deal, he pled guilty to attempted rape and was sentenced to thirteen years in prison. He was also convicted of an additional corruption charge in 2004. He was given compassionate release in 2015 to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest.
