Eric Greitens was the governor of Missouri when he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman and using a photo he took of her while she was blindfolded to extort her silence. The telling thing was that members of his own party led the investigation and the demands for his resignation. Prosecutors made a deal to drop some charges against him if he resigned. He resigned.
He claimed he was exonerated. He was not. He ran out the statute of limitations. The prosecutor said that since the photo used to extort the woman was not found they decided not to file even though they believed the woman he coerced into sex.
His ex-wife has come forward and claims that he viciously abused her and their three-year-old son who she claims lost a tooth after being hit by Greitens. She also affirms that Greitens told her he took the photo that was at the heart of the extortion case. In spite of, or perhaps because of, the past sexual misconduct scandal and the allegations of violence, he was endorsed by former President Trump in the Missouri US Senate Republican primary. He lost, garnering only 19% of the vote.
