271: Jack W. Gardner

Child Indecency, Child Molestation, Child Rape

Jack W. Gardner was convicted of child molesting over thirty years before the Republicans ran him for office. He was the Millersville Council Vice-President and a GOP committeeman for several terms. Republicans are fond of arguing that pedophilia cannot be treated, but I guess it’s okay if you’re a Republican.

In 1970, he pleaded guilty. He was charged with assault with intent to ravish, corrupting a minor, and indecent assault of a minor. She was thirteen, he was twenty-four at the time. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced from three to 23 months for assault with intent to ravish and a year’s probation for all the rest. He was paroled after just three month.

Charles K. Young was the chairman of the James City County Republican Committee, serving two terms from 2010 to August 2016, when he resigned. He was 69, so perhaps he just wanted to retire, but that is also when a family member called the James City County Police and told them he was in possession of child pornography providing enough information for a search warrant. Forensic examination of his computers and other devices discovered he had over 22,000 still images of child pornography as well as videos with minor boys engaged in sexual activity.
