Charles K. Young was the chairman of the James City County Republican Committee, serving two terms from 2010 to August 2016, when he resigned. He was 69, so perhaps he just wanted to retire, but that is also when his son called the James City County Police and told them he was in possession of child pornography providing enough information for a search warrant. Forensic examination of his computers and other devices discovered he had over 22,000 still images of child pornography as well as videos with minor boys engaged in sexual activity.
His son first learned his father collected child porn when he was only 15 years old. He didn’t know it continued until images were found when making a slide show for a funeral. They had an intervention in 2015 to no avail. Then his son saw his dad was chatting with minor children on Facebook and went to the police.
In addition to being the JCC GOP chair, he had worked at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board as senior director of financial services. This is an agency that works with people of all ages with substance abuse, mental health, and disabilities.
In November 2016, he was arrested and charged with receiving child pornography. He sought it out and was charged with ten felony counts of receiving child pornography. He faced from five to twenty years with his guilty plea and was sentenced to six years in prison.
