J. D. Roy Atchison was the U.S. Attorney for northern Florida when he flew to Michigan after e-mailing with a mother who was offering her five-year-old daughter to be sexually abused. He reassured the mother, “I’m always gentle and loving, not to worry, I’ve done it plenty” and told her to tell the child he would bring her presents. The mother, however, was an undercover cop in an internet sting. Atchison was arrested and killed himself in jail before trial.
