Greg Lopez, former mayor of Parker, Colorado, was a candidate in the Republican primary for governor. He is adamantly anti-choice, even at the risk of a mother’s life. However, he was arrested after he knocked his pregnant wife to the ground and kicked her.
Now, this happened years ago and they stayed together. He ran a campaign ad making the argument that the violent incident made their marriage stronger. They advise marriage counseling and that is fine advice for some, but for others, that could be deadly.
Many think Lopez’ video was actually an effort to exploit their violent past for publicity to raise the profile of a gadfly campaign which would be unconscionable. Moreover, the defense that they were both guilty is misleading as she was charged with a lesser charge and as you can see from the articles from 1993 and 1994, there is a big difference.
