Mitch McConnell is the Republican leader in the U.S. Senate. At the time this happened, he was the Senate Majority Leader. He usually makes an effort to appear above the fray but when his official campaign account shared a photo a group of young men in his #TeamMitch shirts assaulted, groped, and strangled a life-size photo cutout of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggesting she should be assaulted with the phrase “Break me off a piece of that” he did not apologize. Instead his campaign offered a very boys-will-be-boys defense.

392: David Narramore

David Narramore was a member of the Kentucky Republican Party’s State Central Committee. He was also chair of the Letcher County Republican Party. He is also involved with the state’s Board of Dentistry, though there was some controversy over that due to his being disciplined for not documenting narcotic prescriptions and over-prescribing.

He was arrested for exposing himself to an employee in a Belk department store bathroom. He iwa also charged with resisting arrest.

364: Robert Goforth

Robert Goforth was a Kentucky state representative and a gubernatorial candidate. He was arrested in 2020 for strangulation and domestic violence charges. His wife told police he strangled her with a cord until she feared for her life and was about to pass out. In a plea deal, he pleaded guilty to the domestic violence charge and the strangulation was dropped. He was sentenced to 59 days which he gets to serve concurrently with a federal sentence for fraud and money laundering. I think the voters in his district deserve to be called out as well. 71% of them re-elected this abuser even though his indictment for domestic violence and strangulation was common knowledge.

Rep. David Byrd was embroiled in a scandal that began when three women alleged sexual misconduct while they were high school students and he was their coach. It is grossly inappropriate to ask teenagers to wear a shirt that promotes any political candidate, especially someone accused of sexually assaulting teenagers. Byrd’s nephew, Ryan Franks, is the principal of Frank Hughes High School.

307: Michael Meredith

Michael Meredith is one of the Kentucky representatives who settled a sexual harassment suit. According to the deposition, Meredith approached the woman and her supervisor and screamed at them asking why they would not fuck him, begging the woman to have sex with him. She also alleged other explicit federal statements.

James DeCesare was a Kentucky state representative from 2005 to 2018. He was one of several Kentucky legislators who were accused of sexual harassment who settled a lawsuit with the accuser. He sued the accuser, not because he claimed innocence, but for disclosing the settlement to her supervisor who reported the harassment. They dropped their suit because misbehavior by public officials is information of public concern

Steve Nunn was a Republican state representative in Kentucky. His father was Governor Louis Nunn. He was elected 1990 and re-elected handily through 2004. He was unopposed from 1998 to 2004 but lost to a Democrat in 2006. He was appointed deputy secretary for Health and Human Services Cabinet by Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear.

In March 2009, he was placed on leave for a domestic violence incident with his former fiancée, Amanda Ross. She got an order of protection. In November 2009, he shot and killed her. The police found him at his father’s grave with his wrists slit. He shot at the police six times, but was taken into custody and sent to the hospital. When he recovered he was charged with her murder. Ironically, killing someone with a protective order carries the death penalty, the result of a bill he co-sponsored in 1998. He eventually pled guilty and was sentenced to life without parole. He was also ordered to pay over $24 million to her family. He collects his pension in prison.

Jeff Hoover was the Republican Speaker of the House in Kentucky. A staff member complained of sexual harassment and he settled with her. He defends himself saying it was consensual banter. The woman alleged groping, unwanted touching, and jealous behavior. She also made claims about other harassment and there was a settlement where she agreed not to go public.
