Eric Reinbold is a maddening example of the two-tiered justice system. This man got every benefit of being white.
In 2015, he pleaded guilty to repeatedly ramming his pickup into a car with his wife and children in it. A postal worker reported it to police and when they showed up there was a long standoff before he took off into the woods. He turned himself in and received stayed adjudication which means he entered a guilty plea for a felony that doesn’t go into your criminal record if you complete probation without any trouble. So he got probation with a chance to have a clean criminal record for a violent attack on his wife and children and a standoff with police.
He is a white supremacist who frequented sites like Stormfront where he became radicalized. He decided to start the Second American Revolution and built some pipe bombs for a planned terrorist attack. For that he was sentenced in 2018 to five years in prison, but he was released in 2020. He applied for compassionate release so he could go home and help his wife who had COVID and take care of the children.
So he went home. A bombmaking white supremacist who wanted to overthrow the government was let out to help his wife. He stabbed her twenty-seven times. He led authorities on a three week manhunt before being captured. While waiting for his trial, he attacked two corrections officers and attempting to escape.
He has been found guilty and is sentenced to forty years. Let’s hope no one in his family gets sick.
Full Disclosure: Most of my family lives in the area. This one’s personal.
