David McCauley was a member of the Buckhannon City Council. He had also served as mayor from 2016-2020 and was elected to City Council in 2022. He is a registered Republican. He once suggested that he was registered as a Republican because only Republicans could get elected in Buckhannon.
In October, 2024, he was indicted for two counts of production and one count of possession of child sexual abuse material. According to the indictment, he enticed a 17-year-old boy to engage in sexually explicit conduct that he photographed and recorded.
He is being held without bail. He resigned from the City Council forestalling his impeachment.
