Christopher Allen Guinup was a police officer in Fairmont, West Virginia. He was put on administrative leave after they began investigating him for child sexual abuse and his firing process has begun now that he has been arrested.
Mike Maroney is a former West Virginia State Senator who served from 2016 to 2024. He is also a radiologist. He lost his primary in 2024 due to some medically sound but unpopular with Republican voter positions in support of vaccines and medical interventions such as hormone treatment for transgender people. He was removed from his position of chair of the Health and Human Resources Committee after his arrest for indecent exposure and disorderly conduct.
In October, 2024, he was indicted for two counts of production and one count of possession of child sexual abuse material. According to the indictment, he enticed a 17-year-old boy to engage in sexually explicit conduct that he photographed and recorded.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, often called the Mormon Church, has protected and shielded child predators repeatedly. In December, 2023, The Associated Press did a story exploring just one of the many times the LDS Church has intervened to protect predators. The case they write about is unique in having recordings of the church’s efforts.
Jeff Jones is the sheriff in Monroe County, West Virginia. He hired a deputy who has been accused of soliciting nude pictures from a minor. An investigation was begun into the deputy who has resigned, however, investigators claim Jeff Jones has interfered with their investigation.
Miracle Meadows was a boarding school for troubled youth in Salem, West Virginia. It was under the aegis of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Founded in 1988, it operated until it was closed down in 2014.
A desperate student drank a cleaning product, was taken to the hospital where she begged for help. An investigation into the school began and the school’s education status was revoked.
Austin Haynes was West Virginia state delegate from 2020 to 2022. He was defeated by a Democrat in 2022. A woman who worked with him to get a bill passed filed suit in 2023 alleging sexual harassment though her intent to sue was announced by her lawyer in 2022. In 2020, Haynes sent her messages in Facebook promising to introduce the bill if elected. He didn’t. What he did do, according to her lawsuit, is send sexual and personal messages that she asked him to stop sending, but he didn’t. She alleges he offered a sexual quid pro quo for the legislation.
He also has some bizarre views on child molestation. Sen. Karnes opposed a rape and incest exception to an abortion ban because he seems to think the rapist will pressure them to abort to get rid of the evidence. He also seems to think that since child victims of pedophiles are groomed to think there is a relationship, then they should not be allowed to get an abortion because they don’t think of it as rape when it’s happening. “You know the dynamic in these relationships quite often is that the child has a very romanticized view of what’s happening. … They think that this is their boyfriend,” he said.
Danny Hamrick was a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates until he lost his seat to redistricting. While in the House, he was forced to resign from the House Education Committee as punishment for a consensual affair with an intern that violated the House of Delegates sexual harassment policy as in her position as a staff intern placed her under his supervision.
One woman claimed he groped her, had her bring in a drink while he was wearing just his underwater, and had her pick up things from the floor on her hands and knees, including his kidney stone. John Oliver talks about the absence of coverage, thanks to Murray’s frequent lawsuits against the press.
