1531: Tony Gonzales

Sexual Harassment, Sexual Misconduct

Tony Gonzales is a U.S. representative from Texas. He had a affair with his aide Regina Santos-Aviles despite both of them being married. Consensual affairs between adults, whether adulterous or not, do not make someone a predator. An affair with an employee, however, is sexual misconduct and sexual harassment. He gave her a raise after the affair began meaning she earned thousands more than her colleagues. Moreover, how consensual is an affair when it’s with one’s boss?

1443: Cory Mills

Familial Abuse & Violence, Menacing, Nonconsensual Dissemination of Private Sexual Images, Stalking/Harassment

Cory Mills is a Republican Congressman from Florida. He founded an international arms supplier making him a literal international arms dealer, like most of the villains in spy movies. He is embroiled in controversies over alleged lying about his military service, potential self-dealing with the millions in government contracts his company has gotten since he went to Congress, and potential ethics violations by misrepresenting his income in mandatory disclosures. He’s also been accused of violence, harassment, sextortion, and making threats by several women.

1285: Justin Hicks

Assault

Max Calfo, a Republican candidate running to replace Hicks in the state House published disparaging information about Hicks on his campaign website. Hicks sued to block the information, suing for “public disclosure of private acts” but a Judge ruled the public had a right to know.

1224: John Sweeney

Familial Abuse & Violence

In 2005, Sweeney’s wife Gayle called 911 alleging he physically abused her. The police came and wrote up a report. This became a bigger scandal because the state police wrote up a second incident report sanitized of any abuse allegation. The domestic violence allegation came out in 2006 and contributed to his election loss. Incidentally, when reporters found evidence that the police altered their records to protect Sweeney, the state police did not investigate how that happened. The investigated who leaked it.

1004: George Santos

Abuse of Power or Authority, Coercion

George Santos is a Republican congressman from New York. He is a fabulist creating a life-story that seems like a movie crafted by a Woody Allen and Terry Gilliam collaboration. Most everything he has told the public about himself is false. On the other hand, there are allegations made by other people that suggest he is a sexual predator.

899: James Comer

Familial Abuse & Violence

James Comer is the Chair of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee who has made the committee into a conspiracy-mill. However, he has been credibly accused by an ex-girlfriend of being physically abusive and of getting her pregnant and taking her for an abortion. Two college friends corroborate her relationship and the physical abuse. She listed him as the person taking her home from the abortion clinic.

802: Greg Murphy

Rape Culture

Greg Murphy has represented North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District since 2019. He got national attention when he responded to the Dodd decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, defending a ban on all abortions, including in the case of rape and incest. He tweeted “No one forces anyone to have sex.” A lot of people don’t believe rape can happen, but they seldom say it right out loud. He deleted the tweet, but did he delete the bias behind it?

657: Monica de la Cruz

Child Abuse

Monica de la Cruz is a newly elected US Congresswoman, representing Texas’ 15th district, replacing Democrat Vicente Gonzalez who was redistricted out of the 15th. Her husband sought a restraining order, claiming she abused her stepdaughter. In once incident, she is alleged to have dragged her crying stepdaughter into the bathroom and pinching her until she stopped crying. She is also accused of verbally abusing the young girl.
