1012: Clark Travis

Child Molestation, Sexual Abuse

Clark Travis was a pastoral leader at two churches, the Centerville Apostolic Church and Apostolic Life United Pentecostal Church in Buffalo, TX. In February, 2023, he was arrested along with his older brother. According to Leon County Sheriff’s office, they abused their pastoral position to sexual abuse at least five children. Clark was charged with five counts of Sexual Assault of a child and one count of Sexual Abuse of a Child under 14.

1011: Matthew T. Travis

Child Molestation, Sexual Abuse

Matthew T. Travis has been accused of using his position as pastor of Apostolic Life United Pentecostal Church in Buffalo, TX, to exploit children. He has been arrested, along with his brother, for child sexual abuse. They are alleged to have abused at least five children. Matthew was indicted with three counts of sexual abuse of a child.

993: Gareth Reece Goode

Child Indecency, Child Molestation

Gareth Reece Goode was a music school owner and the Praise and Music Director at his fundamentalist church in Boerne, Texas. Their school uses the anti-science Abeka curriculum and they promote homophobia and misogyny. In January 2023, he was arrested for aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child and harassment.

966: Mark Aaron Griffin

Abuse of Power or Authority, Assault, Coercion, Rape, Sexual Assault

Mark Aaron Griffin was a Messianic Rabbi in Saginaw, Texas. Messianic Judaism is a syncretic form of evangelical Christianity that incorporates some elements of Judaism. The call themselves Jews, but that is not accepted by mainstream Jews. After he was charged with sexual assault, the Texas school board that banned Anne Frank book invited him to open their meeting with prayer.

He was charged with abusing his influence as a “rabbi” to pressure a woman into consensual and nonconsensual sex. He told her she was God’s gift to him and that she would be his “second wife.” When she told him no, he assaulted her.

He reached a plea deal, pleading guilty to indecent assault and was given two years deferred adjudication which means after two years, if he doesn’t offend again, he will have no conviction on his record. He and his lawyers are claiming he was vindicated by this plea deal.

959: Santiago “Jimmy” Morales Jr.

Abuse of Power or Authority, Child Indecency

Santiago “Jimmy” Morales Jr. worked at San Marcos Baptist Academy, a boarding school for Baptist children. He was charged with having an improper relationship between an educator and a student. The student was seventeen so legally of the age of consent, but the law recognizes that people in positions of authority must not abuse that authority to sexually abuse their students. The student reported it to his dorm parents and counselor.

958: Bradley Wayne Dixon

Child Molestation, Sexual Assault

Bradley Wayne Dixon was the dorm director at San Marcos Baptist Academy. In 2019, he was convicted of sexually abusing students. It took the jury five hours to convict him of two charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, one charge of sexual performance by a child and four counts of indecency with a child.

His lawyer, even after the conviction, said that the boys were lying to be able to sue. He was convicted in 2000 and is serving a 95 year sentence.

957: Shane Flournoy

Child Molestation, Sexual Assault

Shane Flournoy was a dorm supervisor at the Texas School for the Deaf. He was arrested for sexually abusing a 15-year-old student. The student told police Flournoy offered him $200 to expose himself. Then, he touched the student. This came out when he confessed to his minister that he had sexually abused a boy. The minister went to the police. Flournoy also told the police he had confessed to his minister. He said he paid the boy about $1000 to keep quiet.

956: Jerry Dale Carver

Child Molestation, Sexual Assault

Jerry Dale Carver was the minister of education at an Austin, Texas, Baptist church. In 2006, he was arrested for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old child. According to the arrest affidavit, he picked up a 15-year-old boy at a bus stop, began a sexual conversation, touched the boy. When the boy tried to get out of the car, he drove to a park and sexually assaulted him.

955: Ruben A. Garcia

Child Indecency, Child Molestation, Sexual Assault, Solicitation

Ruben A. Garcia was an associate pastor at Betania Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. He was arrested in 2017 for sexually assaulting two children. He was charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child by sexual contact. When he was arrested for one investigation, they discovered there was a warrant for his arrest for another investigation in another county into child sexual assault.
