1338: Paul Calhoun

Child Sexual Abuse Material

Paul Calhoun is the former mayor of Lake View, Alabama. He was appointed in 2016 by Republican Governor Robert Bentley after the mayor and 2 city council members resigned, leaving the town without a quorum to do business.

He was then elected in his own right but resigned in 2020 after being found guilty of voting on an issue in which he had a financial interest.

He was arrested in July 2024 when police found electronic devices containing Child Sexual Abuse Materiel. Additional charges were added, including ten counts of producing child sex abuse material, taking sexually exploitive photos of a 15-year-old girl.

1246: Cole Carter

Child Rape, Child Sexual Abuse Material, Grooming, Solicitation of a Minor

John Cole Carter was a firefighter in Wetumka, Alabama. In June, 2023, he pleaded guilty to transmitting obscene material, possession of child pornography, second-degree sex abuse, electronic solicitation of a child, and enticing a child for immoral purposes.

1149: Aaron Mirtsching

Child Indecency, Child Molestation, Child Sexual Abuse Material

Aaron Doyle Mirtsching was a youth pastor at Thrive Church and a kindergarten teacher at New Dimensions Charter School in North Carolina. In August, 2023, he was arrested for three counts of exploitation of a child through possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material. The material presented children between the ages of 8 to 10 being sexually abused. He was released with a $20,000 bond.

1148: Allan Jones

Child Sexual Abuse Material

Allan Kyle Jones was the pastor at Lifeway Community Church in Loxley, Alabama, since 2015. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said they were tipped off by another law enforcement agency that Jones had downloaded Child Sexual Abuse Material. They got a subpoena and found Child Sexual Abuse Material on his cell phone. They said they may add additional charges after they check his other devices. He is out on $60,000 bail for four counts of possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material.

1118: Cole Wagner

Child Molestation, Sexual Abuse

Marty DeCole (Cole) Wagner is a former employee of the Alabama Department of Education. He was active in the Young Republicans. He also spent three years working for AL Governor Ainsworth. He is also the former Executive Director of the committee Alliance for a Pro-Life Alabama that proffered a constitutional amendment that said there was no right to abortion in Alabama. That amendment allowed for the immediate banning of abortion in Alabama. Cole spoke of the need to defend those who could not defend himself. In his now-deleted Twitter account he joked about Joe Biden’s “inappropriate hugs.”

The age of consent in Alabama is sixteen so the Sauers was not charged with rape or sexual abuse. Instead the charge was for a teacher-student relationship when the student is less younger than nineteen.

After Sauer was arrested, the girl was told she could not play softball unless she signed a waiver agreeing to hold the school harmless in regard to the incident with Sauers. This was particularly damaging as she is a strong player who hoped to secure a sports scholarship.

1045: Jonathan Sauers

Abuse of Power or Authority, Sexual Abuse, Sexual Misconduct

In March, 2023, he was arrested and confessed to a sexual relationship with one of his students and charged with one count of a school employee sex act and one count of a school employee sexual contact with a student under 19. She is sixteen. He’s out on bail and ordered to have no contact with anyone under 18.

992: Adam Jeremy Lewis

Child Sexual Abuse Material

Adam Jeremy Lewis was the Youth Director at Rock Mountain Lakes Baptist as well as a middle schhemool teacher and wrestling coach. In January 2023, he was arrested and charged with possession child sexual abuse material. The church and school placed him on leave. His church posted on a now deleted Facebook post that he and his family need prayers “in a major way.”
