Timothy Ballard is the man whose story inspired the film “Sound of Freedom.” He founded Operation Underground Railroad (OUR) with an international mission of fighting human trafficking. According to OUR, its staff includes many former law enforcement and intelligence officers who have conducted raids saving thousands of children from traffickers. However, it is being investigated by the Utah Attorney General. VICE News has conducted years of investigation into OUR and found a patter of distortion and exaggeration of their international rescue efforts and their collaboration with law enforcement in the U.S.
In addition, OUR had an internal investigation that led to Tim Ballard leaving. The investigation was sparked by a letter saying that funds were being misused and accused Ballard of sexual misconduct with the women employees and volunteers by OUR. Criminal complaints of sexual assault have been filed in Utah and California.
