David Courvelle was an ICE detention officer working at the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Basile, Louisiana. He was observed leaving a janitorial closet with one of the women under his supervision and control, a Nicaraguan woman detained at the facility
He is accused of sexually abusing the woman several times over the course of four months.
He was switched to a different housing unit. He reached a plea agreement with federal prosecutors and plead guilty to one count of one count of sexual abuse of a ward or individual in federal custody.
His case is Federal case number 6:2025cr00354. His sentencing is scheduled for April 10, 2026. He could be sentenced to a maximum of fifteen years and a fine of $250,000. Presumably, due to the plea agreement, his sentence is likely to be less.
