Alexander Bebris was a chief of police in Ohio before moving to Wisconsin where he unsuccessfully ran for the Republican nomination for Sheriff of Outagamie County. In December 2018, investigators searched his home and found child sexual abuse images. In December 2020, he was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison, but he was out on appeal.
His appeal argued that when Facebook searched for and identified child sexual abuse images and reported them to authorities, that violated the Fourth Amendment. The court disagreed and ruled Facebook was a private actor.
While out on appeal of his first conviction, he was caught again and indicted for possession more child sexual abuse images in September 2021. He pleaded guilty and ten years were added to the five years he had already been sentenced to serve.

I have known Alex for over 20 years. When I read his defense about facebook privacy I instantly knew he was guilty. This man was always talking about the patriot act. How if you don’t have anything to hide you shouldn’t worry or argue about it. Only those with secrets argue about privacy. The letter he sent me after he settled in to prison made me angry. He is being treated so well in his prison it makes me ill.
