Michael McGuire was the youngest mayor in Blasdell, New York, when he was sworn in back in 1978. He was also a math and science teacher at Immaculata Academy, a Catholic all-girls school. That was where he groomed some of his students and sexually abused them for three years. Three of them sued him in 2019 under New York’s Child Victims Act, though two of them confronted him several years ago when he told them he was just preparing them for college.
The women are now in their fifties. In a study of over 1000 victims of child sexual abuse, the average age of disclosure is 52, making this not the least bit unusual. Trauma, fear, and shame all prevent contemporaneous disclosure for most victims.
According to the women, McGuire had students at his home and provided them with alcohol. They have pictures of parties at his house where he got girls drunk. At least three other women have come forward to confirm that McGuire hit on them or tried to kiss them when they were students.
Two additional women filed suit against him for sexually abusing him.
