Kristopher Gellenbeck is an Oklahoma City police officer who was put on paid administrative leave after he was arrested for allegedly strangling his son.
He was charged with Child Abuse, Domestic Assault and Battery in the Presence of a Child, and Interfering with an Emergency Telephone Call.
He has been arrested for domestic violence before and charged with domestic and kidnapping. However, his ex-wife decided against testifying and three of the four charges were dismissed and the remaining charge of domestic violence was dropped down to a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace. He made an Alford plea admitting that there was enough evidence to convict but he won’t say he’s guilty. This kept him on the police force.
According to the 2023 police report, Gellenbeck was in an argument with a woman, his son intervened, and Gellenbeck assaulted him. His mother called 911 and Gellenbeck tried to take away the phone from her and injured her.
She filed for an emergency protective order and in her application, she said, “I never felt safe being around Kristopher, but I tried to do the correct thing and allow him to still see his children. Co-parenting has put myself in risk due to how dangerous Kristopher is towards me. My children have told me numerous times they do not want to go over to his house because they are afraid of him and that he is mean. I am afraid for my [family’s] lives due to how dangerous Kristopher is. Kristopher does have access to any firearms, and I truly believe that if he gets close to use again, he can kill us.”
The Emergency Protective Order was granted and will continue to April 16, 2024.
