1102: Chi Alpha and TX Assemblies of God

Organizational Cover-Up

Daniel Savala moved to Texas and became an itinerant pastor, going from Chi Alpha chapter to another. He was associated with five chapters, teaching youth that his sexual abuse was a spiritual rite. Chi Alpha did not tell the students who participated in their events that Savala was a sex offender allowing his to sexually abuse or rape at least thirteen victims. Hundl even brought family members aged 11 and 12 to Savala to be abused. There are often allegations of child sexual abuse networks. This was one.

1095: First Apostolic Church of Maryville, TN

Organizational Cover-Up, Rape Culture

Two women have come forward alleging they were abused by men in the church when they were children. One was eleven, the other twelve. They, individually, told the pastor and his wife who offered to pray for them, but did not report the abuse to the police as required by law. In Tennessee, everyone is a mandatory reporter if they suspect abuse. This has been the law since 1965.

1094: Faith Academy

The age of consent in Alabama is sixteen so the Sauers was not charged with rape or sexual abuse. Instead the charge was for a teacher-student relationship when the student is less younger than nineteen.

After Sauer was arrested, the girl was told she could not play softball unless she signed a waiver agreeing to hold the school harmless in regard to the incident with Sauers. This was particularly damaging as she is a strong player who hoped to secure a sports scholarship.

1080: Michael Sperou

Michael Sperou was the pastor at North Clackamas Bible Community. Most people would call NCBC a church but they reject that term as inadequate to the meaning of their fellowship. They proudly announce and promote the teachings of Mike Sperou and he is all over their website despite his third-time conviction for raping children.

1078: Jana Bradford

Abuse of Power or Authority, Enabling, Organizational Cover-Up

Jana Bradford claimed a tough-on-crime record in her successful campaign for Prosecuting Attorney in the Ninth Judicial District in Arkansas. That may be true, so long as the criminal is not her uncle, instead she spent years using her influence to help him evade justice again and again.

1069: Jim Duran

Organizational Cover-Up

Jim Duran is the District 6 City Councilmember in Ventura, California. He is also the lead pastor at The River Community Church in Ventura. He and his wife, Pamela, are being sued for covering up his son’s sexual abuse of her, beginning when she was fourteen.

1064: Adrienne Peña-Garza

Organizational Cover-Up

Adrienne Peña-Garza is the Chair of the Hildalgo County GOP in Texas and a fellow at The Club for Growth, the organization that worked assiduously to rid the Republicans of moderates. She is being sued for her alleged role in covering up her brother’s sexual harassment and assault. Her brother is Aron Peña.

1042: Nick Johnson

Nick Johnson was the track coach at Huntington University, a conservative evangelical school in Huntington, Indiana. The track team excelled and won national championships and other recognition. However, there was an extensive record of sexual abuse and the use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs)

1041: Fulton Brock

Fulton Brock was a Maricopa County Supervisor. He is accused of using his influence with former Sherriff Joe Arpaio to protect his wife and daughter who were accused of sexually abusing a young boy for three years. Their daughter is alleged to have started abusing the boy when he was thirteen. He says they began grooming him when he was eleven.

1039: Jared Woodfill

Organizational Cover-Up

Jared Woodfill was the Harris County GOP Chair for ten years from 2002 to 2012. He remained politically active and is partially credited with defeating an LGBTQ equal rights ordinance in Houston. Since 2004, he has known that Paul Pressler sexually abused a child when helped settle negotiate a settlement that kept it silenced without any criminal repercussions. Nonetheless, in 2016, he wrote “This 85-year-old man has never made any inappropriate comments or actions toward me or any one I know of.”
