Ralph Norman is a Republican Congressman from South Carolina. In 2018, he made a rape joke during a debate. This was in the midst of the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation process and he made a malicious joke claiming Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she was groped by Abraham Lincoln.
Rob Brooks is a Republican state representative, re-elected by Wisconsin voters after he was asked to resign y Republican governor Scott Walker. He did step down from his position as Assistant Majority Leader, but refused to resign. This was after he made sexist comments to two women Republicans and racist comments to the only Latina Republican in the caucus. He blamed it on being drunk, but that does not make it okay.
He said he was going to buy drinks for everyone except the only Hispanic legislator in the Republican caucus. Folks originally characterized it as a bad joke. He did buy drinks for other people, but not her. The three women described his comments as inappropriate and offensive. Voters had a choice in the Republican primary and 80% of them voted for the person guilty of sexual harassment.
George Faught was a Republican state representative from 2007-2012 when he made an unsuccessful run for Congress. Heading back to the state house, he served from 2014-2017. He lost Republican primaries in 2018 and 2020. He is most notable for opposing a rape or incest exemption to Oklahoma’s anti-abortion bill. When a opponent of the bill asked whether he was asserting rape was the will of god, he asserted a pregnancy that resulted from rape was “bringing beauty from ashes.”
John Boswell is a GOP donor and party activist. He’s also sexually assaulted two women in less than two years. He was in D. C. to celebrate Trump’s Inauguration. When Republican voters continue to vote for sexual predators and their enablers they become accomplices in creating a culture that tolerates sexual predators. Take Roy Moore who himself admitted he was dating teenagers when he was in his thirties, he received 91% of the vote. Jim Jordan is not just some legislator from Ohio, he’s a party leader even though several college wrestlers have come forward revealing they went to Jordan for help when molested by his colleague and instead of reporting as was his duty, he helped cover up the molestation of at least 177 students. A Republican candidate for local office won his election even after confessing to murdering his wife, admittedly this was a small local election, but come on people, leave the line blank.
Chris Hoy ran as a Republican for Maine House District 33. He was asked to drop out by Republicans and Democrats due to his criminal history including violating a protective order, two domestic violence convictions, According to court records, he kicked a pregnant family member in the stomach, knocked her down, and grabbed her by the throat.
Eric Schleien was a New Hampshire state representative for two terms. His role model was Rand Paul. He is currently a podcaster, investor, and media personality His website says he is a tribal leader, but that’s a corporate training certification and has nothing to do with any indigenous tribe. He does not mention that he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a child.
Mark Bedell ran as the Republican candidate for a Maine House seat. He was arrested on aggravated assault charges and was accused of domestic violence. He was held without bail. The Maine GOP asked him to step down.
Paige Patterson is a Baptist religious leader who was a big part of the conservative takeover of the Southern Baptist Convention and served as the president of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Typical of conservative fundamentalists, he opposed the ordination of women. He bragged about telling a woman to stay with her abusive husband because the husband started going to church.
He was sued in 2018 for his part in covering up Paul Pressler’s sexual assaults, but was dropped because of the statute of limitations. Southwestern had him step down and made him President Emeritus. Later in the year, an investigation of the rape of a woman on campus revealed his email to campus security telling them he wanted to meet with the woman alone to “break her down.” He was then completely fired, no more emeritus title and benefits.
In 2019, a woman sued for his abuse and intimidation when she reported being repeatedly raped.by another student. She claimed to be the woman he wanted to break down. He threatened the woman’s mother with legal action for asking why the alleged rapist was still allowed on campus. He told the police that the rape was consensual sex. He told her the rape was a “good thing,” Since then he has given speeches that imply women lie about rape. He has been elected to boards and given posts by belligerently misogynist churches. Patterson claims she never told him.
Mark Patterson was an Idaho state representative. He ended up resigning after it was revealed that he pleaded guilty to attempted rape in 1974. He did not disclose this in his concealed carry permit application in 2007 and 2012 when he renewed. The Ada County sheriff revoked his permit and said he in ineligible for a permit. He was able to carry until he resigned because Idaho legislators exempted themselves from needing a permit.
He called everything a smear and claimed the woman lied. She claimed he raped her twice, threatening her with telling his Doberman to attack if she did not comply. He got a nice plea deal, pleading to attempted rape and got a suspended sentence and five years probation. He claimed it was supposed to be expunged.
