Matthew Chappell was a candidate in the Republican primary for Virginia House District 11 and came in third with 18.5% of the votes in the first round. Ranked choice voting dropped him out in the fourth and final round. He got 18.5% of ballots even though his past sexual misconduct as a police officer in Georgia was revealed before the election.
He was allowed to resign from Glynn County Police Department rather than be fired. He tried to track a woman using a state database and followed her home at night in his police car to pursue sex. In 2019, he was fired by the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Department for showing photos of sex acts featuring him and another employee of the department and for pursuing sex with another woman at different agency while on duty. The state of Georgia revoked his certification in 2019, after three years of being a cop.
