Robert Burns was the campaign manager for Marcie Adkins, a Republican primary candidate competing against Republican Rep. Randy Fine. He was accused of raping and sodomizing a woman while she was incapacitated in Colorado. In South Carolina he was charged by Cherokee Indian Police with leaving his child in a car while he was in a casino gambling. In Richland County, SC, he pled guilty to beating his wife.
Marcie Adkins, the candidate, did not acquit herself well. At first, she ignored the allegations about him. Then she accused Fine of exploiting the victim whom she seemed to think was unwell. “I pray that Mrs. Logan can receive the support and counseling she needs to recover from this and her previous emotional upsets. Please join me in praying for her so that she may receive the healing and care she needs.”
The woman replied, noting she was the one who came forward and pointing out she had contacted Adkins herself. Roberts admits to having sex, saying they were both drunk and that it was consensual. She claims she was not capable of consent. Roberts said the charges were dismissed, but they were dismissed after he pled guilty to adultery, a lesser charge. He falsely claimed they were found equally at fault, but she was not charge with nor did she plead to adultery. She vigorously disputes that claim.
