Joseph Maturo was the mayor of East Haven. He was accused by a city employee of sexually harassing her and exposing himself to her. She ended up taking medical leave. Right before the trial began, the City settled for $175,000 and lifetime medical benefits for the employee and her husband.
He wrote an open letter to his constituents that he settled to save the woman who filed the suit from the harm of all his witnesses and expert testimony destroying her credibility and to save the taxpayers from the cost of the suit, though the taxpayers paid the settlement.
