261: Lane Rees

Lane Rees was elected Walton County (Florida) Commissioner in 2000. He served four years, and was appointed by Gov. Jeb Bush to the Florida Medical Examiner Commission in 2002. In 2008, he was elected to the county Republican state committee. He was the “Community Walton Man of the Year” in 2011. He is active in the United Methodist Church, occasionally preaching and serving in influential positions and boards.

The Walton County sheriff’s office began investigating after a tip from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children. They found child sexual exploitation images on his computer. He both received and transmitted files. There were 74 images found.

He pleaded no contest to one count of promoting sexual performance of a child and 28 counts of possession of child pornography. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the first and upon release 10 years of probation for the 28 counts of possession of child pornography.
