Starr Emery is the Republican candidate for District 46 of the Montana House of Representatives. The Facebook tagline for her campaign is “Safe Children, Sound Families, and a Strong Montana.” That makes her arrest for Child Endangerment surprising.
A police officer saw an unaccompanied toddler wandering down the street. She stopped her vehicle and a man driving past stopped and said he often drives by and frequently sees unsupervised children there. The officer tried to talk to the child, but the toddler was too young to talk. Eventually, other young children came out of the house with Starr Emery whos said the other children were supposed to be watching the toddler.
She initially did not give the toddler’s name and age until she was arrested. The child is two years old. She said she had six foster children. Relying on children to supervise each other is fairly common, though most people only allow kids to play in the back yard, not on the street. What is striking is her campaign emphasizes “safe children.”
She pleaded not guilty.
