John D, Jessup is a Hancock County Commissioner. He is also running fore re-election and on the Republican primary ballot for the County Commission. He is unable to attend meetings or candidate forums because he is under house arrest.
In June, 2024, he was extradited to Nevada to face charges of sexual assault for an incident in January 2024. He is accused of sexual assaulting a woman during a drunken night in Las Vegas.
Since his arrest, it has come out that there are sexual harassment complaints against him, complaints that were ignored until now.
The trial is set for February 2025.
UPDATE: Despite his indictment, Jessup was elected to one of the three commission seats with 15,000 votes. Neither Democratic candidate received 10,000 votes. So, as with the presidency, sexual assault is okay with Indiana voters. After the election, Jessup pleaded guilty. As a convicted felon, he is not allowed to serve, but he could serve as president. His sentencing is scheduled for April next year. He apologized to voters.
UPDATE: John Jessup’s daughter has come forward and identified herself as the person he sexually assaulted in Las Vegas.
“It’s been my greatest honor serving the people of Hancock County and I’m deeply, deeply ashamed and profoundly sorry for the shame that I brought to the county,” Jessup told the Daily Reporter
