Alan Berlin worked eighteen years in Republican politics as an aide to two different Republican state senators, Sen. Hal Mowery, R-Cumberland County, and former Sen. Jane Orie, R-Allegheny County.
He messaged with a teenager, soliciting him for sex. Soliciting sex with a minor is a crime. Having a furry fetish is not illegal, which makes the headlines unfortunate. He’s not a criminal because he is a furry, he is a criminal because he’s a pedophile.
The jury deadlocked in his first trial. Then he pleaded guilty, then he withdrew his plea. Then he was convicted. Even after he was convicted, he persisted in blaming the boy he was communicating with asserting the boy claimed to be an adult roleplaying as a juvenile dolphin to his panda. Again, furry sex fetishes are not criminal. He tried to make his defense about the furry fetish. The judge saw through him and told him he wasn’t fooling anyone.
