Thomas Alexander Garrett Jr. was a Republican representative from the 5th District of Virginia. He was pretty mad his wife, Flanna Sheridan, divorced him. He even filed a complaint saying she abandoned him “without just cause or provocation.”
In her counterclaim, she alleged physical and emotional abuse including the claim he strangled her. She claimed he struck her in the head twice, frequently pinned her to the ground, pushed her, and punched the wall.
He admitted to alcoholism. Sheridan said he quit drinking after attempting to strangle her.
He did not run for reelection. Sheridan also revealed that he talked about killing his former chief of staff whom he blamed for the damage to his political career.
He made a comeback in 2023 and was elected to the Virginia Assembly for the 56th district.
