Robert Stahn founded Wellspring Counseling Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. One of his specialties is counseling trauma victims, including sexual abuse trauma. So it was ironic that he pleaded guilty to sexual abusing vulnerable women who were in his care.
In December 2022, the police received a letter written by Stahn. In the letter, he confessed to sexually exploiting two women who were nonverbal and developmentally disabled. They have the cognitive capabilities of infants. He exposed their genitals and masturbated. He read the letter to a woman and gave it to her. She sent it to the police.
He admitted this to the police when he was arrested. However, he reached a plea deal in exchange for a probation-only sentence. It is a binding plea deal. If the judge accepts the plea, he cannot change the sentence.
Sentencing is scheduled for December 21, 2023
