Jeffrey Ray Nielson is the son of former Fountain Valley Republican mayor Ben Nielsen. Republican political connections framed his entire life. He interned for Orange County DA’s office. Then he went to work for Representative Dana Rohrabacher as an aide. Meanwhile, he pursued 12, 13, and 14-year-old boys.
He was eventually arrested for molesting two young boys and for possessing a huge collection of child pornography. Somehow the DA’s office where he interned messed up the statute of limitations in pursuing the child pornography case which lapsed. He eventually pled guilty in exchange for a three-year sentence. The prosecutors delayed for over two years as the victim grew older. Nielsen bragged to his friends that his connections would get him off.
His victim confronted him in court. He explained that he met Nielsen at a church youth group where he was assigned to be the boy’s discipleship leader along with four more 12 and 13-year-old boys. The boy was flattered by the attention, imagining Nielsen as “the brother he never had.” He impressed the boy’s family and was invited to move into their home. He molested that child for the next two years.
“I loved the idea,” said Billy. “He could be like the brother I never had. He could take me places. We could go to the batting cages in his Jeep Wrangler with the top off. He could pick up candy for me on the way home from work and help me study.
“He loved the idea, too. Cheap rent, nice house—and a boy.”
