863: Mark Curtis Adams

Child Sexual Abuse Material, Solicitation of a Minor

Mark Curtis Adams was a Sunday School teacher and church deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Carmel, South Carolina. He also used the social media app KIK to entice minor children and produce child sexual abuse material. He pretended to be a 17-year-old boy online and engaged in enticement of an 11-year-old girl. Her mother discovered his communications with her and went to police. He was arrested in June 2017. In May, 2018, he pled guilty to the enticement charge and was sentenced to ten years plus 15 years of supervised release.

861: Daniel Montague Acker, Jr.

Daniel Montague Acker, Jr. was a youth pastor and an elementary school teacher. In 1993, he was accused of molesting one of his fourth-grade students but the grand jury did not indict him. While the school was considering termination, he was named Creek View Elementary’s Teacher of the Year. First Baptist Church in Pelham even hosted a fundraiser for him. Meanwhile, the fourth-grader was ostracized while the community rallied for Acker. Acker was so unrepentant as to put the question, “What color are Kristin’s panties?” on a test.

838: David Farren

David Farren was the lead pastor of Anchor Church in Texarkana when he was arrested for crimes he committed as youth pastor at Heritage Baptist Church, also in Texarkana. Two women came forward to report they were raped by him when they attended his youth ministry classes.

834: Glen Uselmann

Glen Uselmann was a youth pastor at Calvary Gospel Church led by John Grant. He groomed and then raped a child, Rebecca, when she was just twelve. He continued to rape her until she was eighteen when they were married. They had two children. Ten years later, she came forward alleging the church fostered a culture of abuse and tolerated child sexual abuse in an article at Capital Times.

829: Jonathan Young

Child Rape

Jonathan Young was the Sunday School teacher at Firstborn Baptist Church in Benson, North Carolina. In 2022, he was convicted of sexually abusing three girls at church and on church buses. One of the survivors, Brianna Holland, went public and said the abuse began when she was nine and continued for two years. The youngest victim was only seven.

810: Joshua Clemons

Child Molestation

Joshua Clemons was the youth pastor at Crossroads Community Church in Parker, Colorado, before going to work for Restoration Community Church in Denver. Church leaders in Parker learned in 2016 that Clemons had a sexual relationship with one of the teen congregants, but she was eighteen, so it was technically legal but highly unethical. So they said nothing. However, they recently learned the relationship began when she was underage and there may be more victims.

He is alleged to have met a 15-year-old girl at church camp when he was 22. She was flattered by the attention and thought his position made him a safe person. He asked her out and began having sex with her even though she was under the age of consent and his pastoral position gave him undue power. That makes their “relationship” rape.
