Scott Robert Jones is the sheriff of Sacramento County. He is retiring in January, 2023. He is the sheriff behind the Netflix series “Jailbirds” and exploitative reality show featuring women prisoners in the Sacramento County jail. He has made two unsuccessful runs as a Republican for Congress, in 2016 and 2022. In 2022, he didn’t make it past the primary.
Gerald Antinoro is the sheriff of Storey County, Nevada. He has served four terms but did not run for re-election in Nov. 2022, so will be ending his service at year’s end. This is extraordinary considering at least five women have accused him of rape and the county has had to pay hundreds of thousands to settle sexual harassment complaints.
Rene Rodriguez had been a deputy in Blaine County before being elected Sheriff in Lincoln County Idaho as a Republican. In 2019, he was arrested and charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16, four counts of lewd conduct with a minor and two counts of rape, all felonies. The victim was his adopted daughter. She told her mother in 2005/2006 when she was nine but nothing came of it. When she heard her younger sister was sleeping in his bed, she came forward in 2018 to protect her. This was disclosed to the jury and after his conviction this was the basis for his appeal, that they should not have been told. The court disagreed.
Craig Rowland, Bingham County, Idaho’s Republican sheriff, was asked by a reporter about an Idaho bill that would require local police and county sheriffs to submit DNA evidence collected from rape victims within 30 days so it can be analyzed. Paul Bailey was the sheriff of Berrien County. While Sheriff, ten women sued the county alleging that four deputies had sexually assaulted them, demanding sexual favors for money or other benefits. When the suit became public, five more women came forward. Throughout the controversy, Bailey denied that it happened, then said that the deputies had already resigned or were fired, and took no accountability for the apparent negligent training and supervision that allowed this to happen. The County was named in the suit for failing to properly supervise, monitor, and investigate complaints.

Al Harrison was the Gulf County Florida sheriff. He used this position as sheriff to force imprisoned women to have sex with him. That is rape. One of the women whom he raped six times also alleged he threatened her with a gun. US. Marshals took him into custody, charged with the federal crimes. He was charged with ten misdemeanor counts of violating their civil rights. Prosecutors said the charges are misdemeanors because federal law requires serious bodily injury for a civil rights violation to be a felony. Why is rape not considered a serious bodily injury?
Joa Arpaio is most well-known for glorying in abusive prison conditions and his racist hatred of Latinos. He was Trump’s favorite sheriff and was convicted of contempt of court for refusing a judge’s order to stop racial profiling. Trump promptly pardoned him. However, contemptible as his treatment of prisoners and immigrants was, he is on the list for his office’s mishandling of more than 400 sexual assault cases.
Will Lewis was the Greenville County, SC, sheriff when he raped a subordinate. He was forced to step down a year later.after she published a now-deleted blog post accusing him of rape and stalking, forcing her to quit her job out of fear for her life.
Former Sheriff Perry Grogan was featured in 1990 by Newt Gingrich as an example of Republican governance for his success in building a new jail under the anticipated cost. Newt Gingrich called him a friend. Still he lost re-election in 1992. In 1996, he was campaigning to get his job back when he was indicted with six counts alleging child molestation.
According to the victim and her uncle, in 1989 and 1990, when she was 10 and 11 years old, he bathed with and fondled her.
