Jeffrey Short was an Asher, Oklahoma, city councilman and a former ICE agent. He was indicted for the rape of two minor children. He was arrested the day after the parents reported the assaults to the police. In 2008, the Department of Homeland Security substantiated that a different child, a 14-year-old claimed he preyed on her. Allegedly, he showed sexual exploitation to minors in his ICE office. He was never charged with those incidents.
Daniel Edmonds ran for the Republican nomination for US Congress in 2010, but he lost. In 2019, he was arrested for having inappropriate sexual contact with a child over a four-year period. A second child said Edmonds began molesting him around 2015 and continued until December 2018. He was arrested in January, 2019, so who knows how long it might have continued if the child had not come forward.
George Faught was a Republican state representative from 2007-2012 when he made an unsuccessful run for Congress. Heading back to the state house, he served from 2014-2017. He lost Republican primaries in 2018 and 2020. He is most notable for opposing a rape or incest exemption to Oklahoma’s anti-abortion bill. When a opponent of the bill asked whether he was asserting rape was the will of god, he asserted a pregnancy that resulted from rape was “bringing beauty from ashes.”
Travis Brauer worked for Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin. While on the job, he attended a legislative meeting. Seated on the floor because the room was packed, he was seen taking upskirt photos of a woman. She reported it to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol which was desultory in its response. She also wrote a letter to Governor Fallin. By the time the man was questioned, he had deleted the pictures though his search history showed he had recently researched how to permanently delete photos. He was charged with submitting false testimony and destroying evidence. After two years of legal wrangling, he pled guilty and was given 80 hours of community service.
Dan Kirby represented Oklahoma House District 75 since 2008 and won the next four elections. It all came to an end after the news broke that state money had been used to pay off a sexual harassment and retaliation complaint against him in November. He would probably still be in the Oklahoma Senate if he had not called an Uber in July 2017. When he got in the car, he told the driver. “Hey, you got nice tits.” He grabbed her while she was driving and kissed the back of her neck. He manhandled and propositioned her. She reported it to the police. He was charged with felony sexual battery. He resigned after he was released. He pled guilty in a plea bargain in which he got 90 days probation, a $500 fine, $50 to the victim’s fund, and court fees.
This was a gift agreed to by the victim out of compassion for his family. Then he went out and violated his probation by driving drunk. His probation was revoked and he was sent to jail for 90 days.
