Secret Photos or Recordings, Stalking/Harassment

Ed Gray is the former Mayor of Gulf Breeze, FL. He also ran in the Republican primary for HD2, but lost. He pleaded no contest to eleven charges starting with eight counts of video voyeurism (he recorded teen boys in the shower,) one count of illegally installing a tracking device, one count of stalking, and one count of intercepting communications.

596: James Montgomery

Solicitation of a Minor

James “Monte” Montgomery was the mayor of Athens, Texas. He bragged that the reason he won was because he was the most conservative candidate. He was arrested in an internet sting for solicitation of a minor. He thought he was communicating with a minor child and showed up for a sexual encounter but was met by police. He pleaded guilty to sending obscene materials to a minor.

579: Gary Caplinger

Child Sexual Abuse Material

Gary Caplinger was a member of Allen, Texas, city council and was serving as Mayor pro tem when he resigned after being charged with possessing and intending to distribute child sexual abuse material. He pleaded guilty to two counts, possession and intent to distribute, for which he received five years each, plus ten years probation.

569: Kevin Hohn

Child Sexual Abuse Material

Kevin Hohn was the mayor of Brookville, FL, and ran an unsuccessful campaign for Hernando County Commission. He was convicted of producing child sexual exploitation material by secretly recording children in his home. In addition, over 100,000 images and 1,000 videos of child sexual exploitation material were found on his computers. He was sentenced to fifteen years after he pled guilty.

491: John Valdivia

Sexual Harassment

John Valdivia is the former mayor of San Bernadino, California, and was a candidate for California State House District 31 in the open primary until he dropped out. He was accused of sexual harassment by two former City employees. Then another. Then his top aide accused him of retaliation for refusing to create false evaluations of the women.

226: Leonard Church

Child Molestation, Child Sexual Abuse Material

Leonard Church served two terms as Kennesaw, Georgia’s mayor, and continued to serve after that as a city council member. He was accused of sexually molesting a 9-year-old boy after showing the boy child pornography. They found between 800 and 1000 child sexual exploitation images on his computer devices. He originally pled not guilty, but changed his plea to guilty in a deal where the prosecutors changed the charge from aggravated child molestation to simple child molestation. He will spent 18 years in prison. He earlier rejected a plea deal that would have only been 15 years.

214: Rick W. Nelson

Child Sexual Abuse Material

Rick W. Nelson was the Republican Mayor of Stillwater, New York, from 2015 to 2017. He was arrested in August 2017, while his son was campaigning in the Democratic congressional primary to take on Elise Stefanik. He pleaded guilty.

When pleading guilty, he expressed contrition and claimed sex addiction that now that it has been discovered was being treated. His lawyer talked about the good he has done. He even volunteered to be a guinea pig in experimental treatment for sex addiction.

It all sounds good except this was his FIFTH arrest for victimizing children.

170: Brian O’Toole

Child Molestation

Brian O’Toole was first elected to the Sunnyvale City Council in 1983. He served as mayor from 1985 to 1986 and was re-elected in 1989 for a two-year term. He was charged in July 1990, with molesting a boy under the age of fourteen for six years from 1983 to 1989. He met the boy through the Big Brother program.

He later pled guilty and was sentenced to six years.
