568: Brian Chisholm

Retaliation

Brian Chisholm and his fellow Maryland state legislator Sid Saab owned a gym together. An employee who had worked for them for thirteen years reported that she was sexually harassed for two years by one of their managers. Rather than investigate her complaint, they fired her. She sued them for retaliation. They tried to get the case dismissed, claiming they fired her for timekeeping issues, but the court ruled a reasonable factfinder would see their reason for firing as a pretext, while the real reason was retaliation for suing.

567: Sid Saab

Retaliation

An employee who had worked for them for thirteen years reported that she was sexually harassed for two years by one of their managers. Rather than investigate her complaint, they fired her. 563: Andrew Ryan Bennett

Assault, Familial Abuse & Violence

Andrew Ryan Bennett is an insurrectionist. On January 6th, he was chanting “break it down” when he entered the Capitol. He also wore a Proud Boys hat. He has a long criminal history full of violence against women. In 2003, he broke down a glass door at a tattoo parlor and attacked a woman and served eighteen months in prison. That same year his mother called the police for help because he had gotten drunk and was menacing her and others. In 2009, he assaulted his sister and his TWO-YEAR-OLD nephew. He poured bleach on the child. A woman whose known him since childhood said in stroke of understatement, “I don’t think he says women as equals.”

451: Eric Lin

Menacing, Stalking/Harassment

Eric Lin was an avid Trump supporter and fascist ideologue. He claimed to thank God every day for Trump. He also harassed a Latina who waited on him once, sending her threats through direct message to kill her and all Latinos. His messages to her ran to 150 pages and were filled with threats of kidnapping, rape, torture, and murder. He tried to hire someone to kidnap her. She took the threats to the police and eventually Lin was arrested in Seattle.

312: Ryan Nawrocki

Familial Abuse & Violence

Ryan Nawrocki was the Republican candidate for Baltimore County, Maryland’s Sixth District council race. However, a past police report leaves questions. In the report, his girlfriend, who is now his wife, alleged that he struck her, pushed her down, and choked her. She told the police twice that he assaulted her during arguments. In the first report to the police, she claimed he pushed her down, but she was uninjured. In the second report, she claimed he hit her and split her lip, pushed her to the floor and was choking her. She managed to get him to stop by digging her nails into his arm. The police officer noted the injuries to her upper and lower lip and also noted that Nawrocki had injuries of his own. She now ascribes their altercation to youth and says there was no abuse.

228: Brett Kavanaugh

Rape Culture, Sexual Assault

Brett Kavanaugh is a Supreme Court Justice. During his confirmation hearing, news of an attempted rape allegation was leaked to the media and became a significant part of his confirmation hearing. Like Clarence Thomas before him, he indulged in an angry rant that shut off further inquiry into the allegation.

Christine Blasey Ford testified at the hearing and so did Kavanaugh. He produced his calendar from back in high school to provide himself an alibi, though it substantiated her timeline more effectively than his. Other women came forward alleging sexual assaults but they were not called as witnesses and their allegations were not investigated. The FBI did not do an investigation of her allegation, though they claimed to have done so at the time. Tips about Kavanaugh’s past were not forwarded for investigation but instead sent to the White House.

211: Ron Williams II

Child Sexual Abuse Material

Ron Williams II was one of the people assigned to Trump’s failed Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity. He was formerly an intern for Republican Commission member J. Christian Adams. The commission was a complete failure and Ron Williams getting arrested for possession of child exploitation materials didn’t inspire confidence.

Police got a tip from the National Center for Missing Children and checked his phone and found multiple files of child exploitation materials.

194: C. J. Mahaney

Child Abuse, Child Molestation, Child Rape, Organizational Cover-Up

C. J. Mahaney co-founded the Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, MD with Larry Tomczak in 1982 Tomczak left in 1997 leaving Mahaney at the top. It was a successful megachurch that grew into a religious conglomerate known as Sovereign Grace Ministries. SGM formed churches all over the US, as well as in Mexico and the Philippines. That had 28,000 members around the world.

A three-year-old girl was rapped by a 15-year-old boy who was babysitting her during a church activity. When her family went to the police, the pastors intervened pressuring the family to forgive the rapist and let it go. After two years of pressure, the girl’s family quit the church. That was the first known occasion of the church organizing a cover-up. The mother wrote it up in a blog post for SGM Survivors, where until then people talked more about how controlling the community was. Her post opened the floodgates.

There are several cases of someone coming forward with an abuse allegation and being told to reconcile with the abuser. Children who reported sexual abuse by a parent were not helped but rather hurt because the church told the parent who only abused them more. There is a case of a man raping his adopted daughter. When his wife learns of this she wants a divorce and the church told her not to do it. She got out, and reported it to the police. He went to jail, but SGM lobbied for his early release and has him doing work in contact with children

He tried to ship five packages containing ammunition and explosives through the mail. When they got a search warrant, they found a bunker with all sorts of illegal weapons, including a machine gun. They also found materials that sexually exploited children.

When he was indicted, he was charged with using a minor to “engage in sexually explicit conduct to produce child pornography.” The DOJ announcement below is more specific. Suffice it to say his sixteen year plea agreement was a gift.

91: Robert McKee

Child Sexual Abuse Material

Delegate Robert McKee represented western Maryland in the Maryland state legislature where he served from 1984 to 2008. Ironically, he sponsored legislation to protect minors from sexual predators. He also resigned from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County where he worked for 29 years. Washington Post: GOP’s McKee Resigns After Home Is Searched…
