Jon Landry was a Republican member of the Farmington Town Council. He met a girl online. He used the pseudonym Jason Davis and claimed he was seventeen. He really was a thirty-two-year-old politician with a wife and two children. The girl was twelve. They communicated for four years until she was sixteen when they met in person for the first time and began an affair. Sixteen was the age of consent and the affair was consensual, but there’s more.
As she grew older, she wanted to end the relationship but he threatened her, extorting her to continue to have sex with him. They had a sex “contract” and he told her she would have to pay $500 to get out of it. He threatened to contact her school to get her in trouble. The girl had a boyfriend and wanted to break it off but was pressured to continue. There even appears to be a sock puppet, Jessica Monroe, involved who threatened her with exposure of photos of her if she broke it off with Landry.
She went to the police who called “Jason Davis” and tried to find Jessica Monroe. Well, Jessica Monroe sold some speakers on Craiglist. The buyer’s description fit Jon Landry and had the same make and model car as Landry. One of the IP addresses that connected to Monroe’s texts was Landry’s employer.
He’s been charged with harassment and interfering with police because he used his Jason identity when talking to police. She was of the age of consent when the sex act first occurred, but he groomed her for four years, since she was twelve. It took her six years, until she was twenty-two to free herself from his extortion for sex. Why isn’t extortion for sex considered rape?
He pleaded no contest to the charge of harassment. He was sentenced to a 30-day suspended sentence, a one-year conditional discharge and a protective order that requires Landry to have no contact with the young woman through 2099, so seventy-seven more years to go.
