130: Wes Goodman

Wes Goodman was an Ohio state representative. Fittingly, considering his resignation, he once worked for Rep. Jim Jordan who infamously looked the other way while his students were being molested by a colleague. Goodman is not listed for his hypocrisy in engaging in many consensual affairs with men, but for the non-consensual fondling of a college student at a GOP event.

Goodman unzipped the young man’s pants and fondled him before the young man ran to his parents and told them what happened. The parents contacted Tony Perkins, head of the Council for National Policy, asking him to do something. Perkins who also heads the anti-gay Family Research Council reassured the parents and did nothing except write to Goodman about this and “other incidents.”

Goodman went on to win his primary and election to the Ohio House. He resigned when it was revealed that he had a consensual encounter with a man in his office. People want to know why the earlier allegations were hushed up. Some might wonder why a consensual affair resulted in more serious consequences than nonconsensual grouping of an 18=year-old.
