Dennis Gallagher was a New York City Councilmember, representing Queens. He was accused of rape by a woman he met in a bar. According to her, he promised her a ride home but took her to his office instead and beat and raped her. He claimed it was consensual.
Gallagher pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of sexual misconduct, including forcible touching and third-degree sexual abuse. Gallagher has said that he only pleaded guilty because of mounting legal fees. Mrs. A has maintained publicly that she was raped. He got no jail time but had to resign.
