Larry Householder is an Ohio state representative. He is more infamous for his $60 million bribery conviction in 2023. However, in 2021, he was Speaker of the House who oversaw the hearings regarding the Ohio State University abuse scandal, the one U.S. Congressman Jim Jordan covered up.
In 2020, Householder loudly demanded passage of a bill that would allow survivors of OSU abuse to sue the University. He garnered a lot of positive headlines full of outrage that there was no action. In 2021, he bragged that they never intended to pass the bill, but hoped fear of the bill would increase an out-of-court settlement with survivors.
Survivors were not told that the several times they were called to show up and support the bill, to testify, and to lobby, that this was just a ploy. Mike Schyck was one of the survivors who testified. He was angry when he learned it was all theater. “Why f**k with victims in that way? That’s the most irresponsible thing I’ve ever heard.” He thought the bill was a real thing, not a ploy. “Why would you consider putting us through that?” he asked.”
While the current House Speaker Seitz was also part of the plan, Householder was the Speaker at the time. He is responsible for putting survivors through testifying for a bill they never once considered really passing.
