Dr. David Hager was appointed by President George W. Bush to the Food and Drug Administration’s Advisory Panel on Reproductive Health Drugs and used that position to block FDA approval of emergency contraception (Plan B.) His nomination was opposed though ultimately approved, he still whined about being persecuted for his religious beliefs.
His ex-wife divorced him because he repeatedly raped her by forcing anal sex on her. Kentucky recognized marital rape in 1990, so he’s very lucky she didn’t file criminal charges, though there is a one-year statute of limitations. After The Nation reported her allegations, he stepped down at the end of his term, not seeking reappointment.
Davis alleges that between 1995 and their divorce in 2002, Hager repeatedly sodomized her without her consent. Several sources on and off the record confirmed that she had told them it was the sexual and emotional abuse within their marriage that eventually forced her out. “I probably wouldn’t have objected so much, or felt it was so abusive if he had just wanted normal [vaginal] sex all the time,” she explained to me. “But it was the painful, invasive, totally nonconsensual nature of the [anal] sex that was so horrible.”
