898: Michael Scott Langton

Michael Scott Langton was a police officer in Ferndale, Washington. After the Insurrection, he tried to join the Oath Keepers. He was put on leave but then allowed to return to work. He was put on leave again after he asked a woman to let him have sex with her and her 12-year-old daughter.

He met the woman when she called 911 after witnessing an accident. He took her information and showed up the following day at her apartment when her child answered the door. She later called him to tell him her neighbor had video of the accident. He asked her out on date and they saw each other a few times and he frequently mentioned his preference for “barely legal” porn.

They corresponded on an encrypted app and he asked her about her and her daughter having sex. She screenshot the conversations and brought them to the police.

The charges were dismissed however, because the prosecutor decided that while he had the intent, he didn’t take steps to commit the crime. The prosecutor said asking to have sex with a child isn’t enough, he had to do more.

Oddly, they didn’t pursue any charges about using personal information from the 911 call to pursue the woman.
