William Trevor Goodson

William Trevor Goodson is a now-former South Laurel High School girls basketball assistant coach and coach at the middle school. He resigned after being charged for sexually abused students.

Goodson was charged with first-degree sexual abuse, procuring or promoting the use of a minor by electronic means, unlawful transaction with a minor for illegal sexual activity and use of a minor in a sexual performance.

William Trevor Goodson, 31, of London, appeared before Laurel District Judge John Chappell for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday. Chappell said it was his understanding that the case had been presented to the grand jury on Monday for possible indictment. That qualified the preliminary hearing to be waived since evidence has already been presented at the circuit court level. Chappell told Goodson to appear in circuit court this Friday for possible indictment. Goodson's attorney requested review of Goodson's bond, with Chappell replying that since the case was before the grand jury, the bond would remain at $75,000 cash. "The circuit court will set the bond if he is indicted," Chappell said. Goodson is charged with first-degree sexual abuse, procuring or promoting use of a minor by electronic means, first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor — illegal sex act with victim under 18 years of age, and use of a minor (under 18) in a sexual performance. He was arrested on Mar. 1 after an investigation by London Police Department that began on Feb. 23. Goodson was listed as assistant girls basketball coach at South Laurel High School and coach of the South Laurel Middle School girls basketball teams. No details of the causes of the charges were available. Goodson was arraigned last week and the document was sealed by Laurel District Judge Wendell "Skip" Hammons. Goodson is the fourth South Laurel High staff member to be charged with sexual interactions with students in the past four years. Mark Felts, former choral director, is serving a 5-year sentence. Former coach Jon Walker's case was settled and he agreed to not coach any minors in the future. The case against Tim Thompson, a former South Laurel teacher, is still pending in Laurel Circuit Court.
