Rick Roeber was a Republican representative for Missouri state House District 34. when his children came forward to tell people about his physical and sexual abuse of them during their childhood. This was a not a new allegation. They swore this in an affidavit more than twenty years earlier when they successfully fought for emancipation.
This came out before the election and Republicans asked him to drop out so they could run a different candidate. He refused. He claimed that his kids were lying because they were Democrats who wanted to defeat him. Politics played no role when they went to court as children seeking emancipation from him. There are court records from twenty years ago substantiating their claims.
And the voters voted for a man who raped his own children because he had an R after his name.
The state ethics investigation said his denials were not credible. They also reported that he drowned puppies.
He offered to resign but would not acknowledge the harm done to his children. The House refused to accept his resignation and expelled him with a vote of 153 to 0.
