He was charged with several felonies after swerving into another land and striking a woman with his car and driving away. They had been dating. The tire blew out on his car while they were on their way to dinner. A fight broke out and she got out of the car. He was yelling at her to get in the car, turned and cross the center line in order to hit her. He knocked her down with the car, stopped the car, and got out and walked toward her. She said she scrambled to get away, afraid he might do more to harm her.

Several years ago, before he became a state senator, he volunteered at the shelter. When Hurricane Irma was heading their way, he paid for a bus to evacuate survivors and went on the bus with them. He spoke to one of the survivors, talking about topless women, sex workers, and offering to fly her to Las Vegas. When the director heard of this, she banned him from the facility. As senator, he made several allegations against the shelter including trafficking, drug use, and a conflict of interest. These allegations proved to be false.

The aide told CBS News that Basabe had been drinking, there was some misunderstanding that “lead him to slap me in the face in front of other people in the room. He then told me to stand in the corner. I was so embarrassed that I did as he asked.” This happened in January, but Frevola did not talk about it until he was contacted because he signed an NDA when he started working for Basabe.

His former fiancée filed a restraining order alleging violence. He denies it.
Another serious allegation was made in his home state of Indiana where he was alleged to have a student he taught at a middle school, either a sixth or seventh grader. The case was not pursued even though there were allegations from several people and despite his being fired for exposing himself to a custodian. Later a thirteen-year-old girl claimed he molested her and gave her a nude photo of himself. She showed it to several classmates. The case was dismissed because the judge excluded one of the essential witnesses.
1070: Andrea Speck

Andrea Speck was a candidate in the May 2022 Republican primary in the heavily Republican, sure to win the general, District 81. She ran in the Republican primary for Huntingdon County Commission in 2023 and lost that primary as well. While a primary candidate in 2023, she was arrested for an assault on her daughter. The next hearing on her case is July 20, 2023.
