Jonathan Hernandez was the Chair of the Oklahoma College Republicans. He was also a campaign outreach worker for Ryan Walters who ran successfully for State Superintendant. They terminated his employment after two weeks. Shortly before his arrest, he received recognition from the state Republican Party for his work in Latino outreach and even a received a message from the national organization. He was employed by the Senate at the time of his arrest but was terminated.
In July 2022, Hernandez was arrested for sodomy and lewd or indecent proposals or acts to a child. The child was just 14 and Hernandez gained his trust in church. He was providing a “campus tour’ of Oklahoma Christian College and the child went for the weekend and was sexually assaulted after Hernandez showed him porn. The abuse continued for some time with Hernandez even going to the boy’s home which is where the boy’s mother caught them.
On January 9, 2023, Hernandez pleaded guilty and got a five-year suspended sentence. For sexually assaulting a child several times over.
