506: Kevin Clarkson

Kevin Clarkson was the Attorney General of Alaska when he abruptly resigned after ProPublica published a story about him sending more than 500 text messages to a state employee. The messages frequently commented on her appearance and asked her to come to his home. She complained about feeling harassed by him and he went on unpaid leave, but no one said anything or did anything to advance her complaint until the story broke in the news.

“When the woman responded she gave warm and friendly replies but appeared to politely deflect, delay or decline each invitation. In some cases, she reminded the attorney general of the global pandemic, saying she needed to work at a second job to make ends meet or that she was caring for family members. The texts indicate she never did go to his home.” – ProPublica

The woman did not cooperate with newspapers, but she was non-union and could be fired for any reason.
