387: Gerald Antinoro

Gerald Antinoro is the sheriff of Storey County, Nevada. He has served four terms but did not run for re-election in Nov. 2022, so will be ending his service at year’s end. This is extraordinary considering at least five women have accused him of rape and the county has had to pay hundreds of thousands to settle sexual harassment complaints.

In once case, the county paid a $250,000 settlement to a deputy who was fired after she filed a complaint that was investigated and found credible. A position was created for her elsewhere in the county, but her law enforcement career was ended after they found her complaint credible.

The Attorney General at the time was Adam Laxalt whose investigation found five possible victims of Antinoro, but all the incidents were not prosecutable because of the statute of limitations. Another allegation involved him arranging for three men to rape and ex-girlfriend, but that case was referred to California State Police. There have been more than ten allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
