Edward Southard was a SC state representative. He was accused of sexual harassment by a female page. He claims it was all because he asked for help with making a Power Point presentation. But another woman accused him of making her uncomfortable and even following her in his pickup.
After he resigned, the House Ethics Committee found probable cause that he likely violated House policy prohibiting harassment. He complained that he had been told if he resigned the case would be closed. However, he’s on the ballot for re-election and unopposed. There are allegations from two two pages and a lobbyist who said Southard’s comments, hugs, and touches made them uncomfortable. All three are Black.
The Committee found probable cause to believe he harassed them and fined him $2,000. The also forced him to take himself off the ballot.
