Ed Crane was co-founder of the Cato Institute. That makes him a Libertarian, not a Republican but until Trumpism, he was mostly aligned with Republicans. For example, they grade candidates based on taxing less and spending less, not on effectiveness of the spending or fairness of the taxation. The adage that says “a Libertarian is a Republican who smokes pot” is a good fit for the Cato Institute. If you have any doubts look at their ranking of US governors.
After he was retired, three people came forward alleging sexual harassment by Ed Crane and several employees also affirmed that he made frequent sexual comments to women. Cato then terminated his consulting contract but he remains President Emeritus.
